1. What are TikTok Ads?

3. Before running Tiktok Ads, what do you need to prepare?

To run Tiktok Ads smoothly, businesses should prepare the following steps in advance:

3.1. Create a TikTok Ads ad account

The process of registering for a TikTok Ads ad account in Vietnam follows these 2 main steps:

  • Step 1: Sign up for a TikTok account through a TikTok agency partner in Vietnam
  • Step 2: TikTok will censor and respond to your registration information.

After being censored, businesses will be supported by the Agency to run TikTok Ads ads.

3.2. Register for an international payment card

TikTok’s only advertising payment method is through international payment cards. Businesses need to prepare Visa/Mastercard or JCB cards (Debit or Credit cards are acceptable).

3.3. Top up your TikTok Ads account

Usually, this cost will not be credited to the ad account immediately; sometimes, it can take up to 3-5 days. Therefore, businesses should top up their Tik Tok Ads account before starting the campaign.

3.4. Landing Page

This is the place that will help businesses collect customer information after they click on the business’s Tiktok ads.

3.5. Choose the right promotional video

Usually, for shop owners or business owners with a moderate advertising budget, the TikTok In-Feed ad format is the most suitable.

4. How to run effective TikTok Ads

To run effective TikTok ads, businesses can follow these steps:

Step 1: Set the campaign objective

First, log in to TikTok Ads Manager and click the Campaign button. TikTok has seven advertising objectives divided into 4 categories:

  • Increase awareness

Scope: Ads are run to reach the maximum number of users.

  • Customers remember the brand (Consideration)

Traffic: Drive traffic to a specific URL (link).

App Instals: Drive business app download traffic.

Video Views: Maximise the number of ad video pops.

  • Lead generation:

Use pre-existing forms to collect leads.

  • Create conversion:

Conversions: Drive specific actions on your website, such as making a purchase or signing up for a trial.

Catalogue sales: Ads based on product categories (available only to people with ad accounts in supported regions).

Step 2: Name the campaign and budget for TikTok Ads

Businesses should name the campaign, at most, about 512 characters. If your business has enough budget to spend on an entire campaign, you can check the “No Limit” box for your campaign budget.

A “Daily – by day” or “Lifetime” plan limits the total budget to a certain number. Depending on the objective of the advertising campaign, the business will choose the budget package that best suits the available resources.

Step 3: Name each ad group and choose a placement.

Each campaign can have 1-999 ad groups. Each ad group name can be up to 512 characters long. Ad groups allow businesses to target audiences, make ad placements, schedule runs & set specific budgets. For example, a business can create 2 ad groups, one targeting an audience in Ho Chi Minh City and one targeting an audience in Hanoi, to test which group is more effective.

In addition, businesses can choose different placements for each ad group. Not all ad types can be placed freely:

  • Location on TikTok main page: In-feed ads are placed in the “For You” section.
  • News Feed App Location: Ads in other TikTok apps — BuzzVideo, TopBuzz, NewsRepublic, and Babe.
  • Pangle Location: TikTok’s user network.
  • The automatic placement allows TikTok to automatically optimise ad delivery.

Step 4: Select the target audience

Like most social media ads, TikTok allows businesses to select their target audience based on:

  • Gender
  • Age
  • Habitat
  • Language
  • Interests
  • Consumer behaviour

Step 5: Set a budget and set a posting schedule for each TikTok Ads ad group

After you have set a budget for the entire campaign, you need to set a budget and set a schedule for each ad group.

  • In the budget section, businesses will have 2 options:

Daily budget: If you fill in 500,000 & choose Daily, TikTok will spend 100k in 1 day.

Lifetime budget: If you enter 500,000 & choose Lifetime, TikTok will distribute 100k/day during advertising. TikTok will rely on the running schedule to claim the minimum amount.

  • In the schedule section: Choose when to start running Tik Tok ads and when to stop ads.
  • The Dayparting section: Allows businesses to choose a specific time to display ads during the day.

All Day: TikTok will default to All Day, which means ads will be delivered on TikTok all day.

Specific Time: If the business chooses Select Specific Time, the ad will be delivered according to the schedule set by the business. You want the ad to show only at 9-10 am & 20 – 23 pm on Monday, for example.

Step 6: Bidding & Optimization Bidding

If you are new to running TikTok ads, businesses should leave the Delivery Type as Standard. In the Bid Strategy section, businesses can enter the amount they are willing to spend per click on the ad. (Note: If set too low, TikTok will not accept.)

Businesses should rely on profit per product & budget limits to make decisions. Once done, click Next to move to the ad setup section.

7. Step 7: Create TikTok Ads

Next, businesses must prepare content/videos/photos in the TikTok advertising section. (Note: Currently Tik Tok only supports video ads.)

  • Add videos of businesses that want to run TikTok Ads.

In the Choose Video section, click Add From Computer and upload the promotional video. Or, if you want to reuse a video that has run ads on TikTok before, click Add From Library. (Note TikTok’s promotional video format requirements.)

  • Choose a cover photo for the TikTok Ads video.

The cover photo is a vital part of grabbing the user’s attention. Businesses can upload a custom cover photo or choose one from the promotional video. Depending on the length of the video, you can choose up to 8 photos as your TikTok ad cover photo.

  • Preview how ads will show in reality on TikTok

Businesses should double-check by looking at the ad preview. (Note: TikTok will automatically adjust based on the user’s device and network conditions.)

  • Enter ad text

The ad text will show on your business’s ad. The maximum length will be 12-100 characters.

Choose a call-to-action that matches your business’s ad in the Call To Action section. TikTok currently only supports selecting from the available list.
